Women’s head cover (Phulkari Chadar)

Western Punjab, Pakistan
These finely and densely floss-stitched covers were known as bagh or garden, and are typical of the western Punjab (now Pakistan). The floss of the silk, gives an optical sheen, given on the direction of the embroidery. Increasingly difficult to find, they have become quite rare. They are remarkable for the skill of the embroider as they are worked from the reverse side.
